[Also in Group XXIII] A drive-unit incorporated in a wood-working machine comprises a rotary spindle for the attachment of such as a boring-bit, a drivemotor 24, Fig. 1, therefor carried by a pivotallymounted platform 21, and manually-actuable control means for effecting movement of the unit between a position in which the spindle extends horizontally and one in which it extends vertically. The platform 21, which is pivoted below a work-table 2 in a casing 1 for swinging about a horizontal axis by a screw-and-nut 29, 30 and a pivoted arm 31, carries the motor 24 and rotary spindle 42, Fig. 3, on opposite sides, the drive being by a belt 27. The motor is carried by a plate 22 pivoted at 23 to the platform 21 and can be adjusted by screw means to vary the position of the motor and accommodate different pulley ratios. The work-table 2 has two depending arcuate plates 3, Fig. 1, which are slidably guided between rollers 4, 5 carried by plates 6 mounted on vertical rams 7 guided vertically by brackets 8. The table is moved between its horizontal and inclined positions by a screw-and-nut 12, 13 and a pivoted arm 14, and is raised and lowered by the rams 7 actuated through a hand-operated sprocket drive 16, screwed shafts 18, nuts 19 and links 20. The rotation of the motor 24 is reversed automatically when the platform 21 is swung between its two positions by a rack 36, Fig. 3, operated by the screw-and-nut 29, 30. In the vertical position of the platform, tools for routing, channelling and spindle-moulding may be fitted to the spindle. In the horizontal position, a saw blade 41 and a chuck 42 for grinding-discs or boring-bits are used at opposite ends of the spindle. In the latter position, use may be made of a work-table 44 attached to a door 47 which is opened to permit tilting of the platform 21. The table 2 has a removable centre-piece 51 which may have a slot for the passage of a circular saw, or a circular opening for the passage of another type of tool, and this opening may itself receive a disc 52 with a smaller aperture for receiving a smaller tool. The table 2 also mounts guards 53, 55 and a fence 54, which is secured to a sleeve 56 slidably mounted on a shaft 57 and adjusted by a hand wheel 59.
