Abstract

720,657. Sawing. FJELDE, I., and JOHANSEN, S. Feb. 2, 1953 [Feb. 7, 1952], No. 2931/53. Class 145. A circular saw 5 and its driving motor 4 are adjustable vertically and also angularly in both the horizontal and vertical planes by being hinged about a horizontal axis 6 on a cylinder 3 which is slidably and rotatably fitted within a pillar 2 mounted on a built-up tube framework 1. The top of the pillar 2 is split so that it can be clamped rigidly on the cylinder 3 by bolts 9 passing through lugs 8a or the cylinder 3 can be clamped against rotation while allowing vertical adjustment by bolts 12 and a split ring 11 having a pin engaging a slot 14 in the cylinder 3. Adjustment about the pivot 6 is locked by a bolt 24a projecting through a graduated slot 23 on plates 22 secured to the motor mounting plate 4a. The cylinder 3 is balanced by a cord 16a extending from the mounting plate 4a to the foot of a rod 17 attached to the top of the cylinder and running over a pulley 19 on an upwardly-extending rod 16 secured to the frame and over a pulley 18 on a spring 15. A hole 10 is provided for a lifting handle. The saw blade projects through a rectangular hole 27a in a disc 27 which is flush with a removable table 21 and is rotatable with the cylinder 3; the hole 27a is closed by plates 28 placed so that a saw slot 26a is provided in the position required by the saw adjustment. A further hole 29a, normally closed by a plate 29, accommodates the saw shaft when the motor is in a vertical position, in which case the saw may be replaced by a milling tool. A guide 25 is slidable on a rod 26 and a lower table 30 and guide 31 are provided for use when grooving the ends of boards.
