Abstract

705,405. Band. saws. KEARNEY & TRECKER CORPORATION. April 26, 1951 [Oct. 5, 1950], No. 9755/51. Class 145 (2) [Also in Group XXIV] A band saw machine includes a pair of spaced saw guiding wheels, a supporting frame comprising a vertically upstanding column having an unbroken front wall, an upper wheel support having a relatively flat support plate with a peripheral flange secured to the upper ends of the front wall of the column, a lower wheel support having a relatively flat support plate with a peripheral flange secured to the lower end of the front wall of the column, the supports rotatably supporting and partially enclosing the guiding wheels. The column 48 carries the upper and lower wheel supports 49, '50 each having an access door 71, 72 completely closing the housings. The band saw 35 is guided above the work by a guide 44 adjustable for height by a lever 135. It may comprise a rotatable wheel to take the thrust of the band saw and is adjustable for different depths of the saw blade. The work table 36 may be tilted to enable cuts to be made at any angle. The lower saw wheel is driven through change-speed gearing through a clutch operating gear box (see Group XXIV) and an infinitely variable gearing. A welding apparatus 47 is movably associated with the machine to swing into an operative position so that the band saw can be re-welded if it breaks.
