Abstract

473,491. Sawing. WHITE &-SONS, Ltd., T., and ANDERSON, R. S. April 21, 1936, No. 11422. [Class 145 (ii)] A circular-saw machine for cross-cutting panels and the like comprises a support which carries the work in a substantially vertical position, a fixed guide extending upwardly from the base and parallel to the work, and means for traversing the saw and driving motor up and down on the guide. In the machine shown, the work rests with its lower edge on rollers b and is supported by slightly inclined bars c secured to a wall. The saw g works in a slot formed between a closelyspaced pair of these bars and, together with its motor h, is mounted by means of rollers on a channel-member f extending upwardly from a pit i and parallel to the work. The saw unit is traversed up and down the guide by an endless chain operated from a hand wheel n through bevel gears and a sprocketwheel m; alternatively it may be operated by rack and pinion, worm and worm-wheel or other means, and by power instead of by hand. The saw unit may enter the pit i to facilitate handling the work.
