Abstract

1534089 Weeding machines G BURNEL and G ECOLASSE 9 Sept 1976 [9 Sept 1975] 37457/76 Heading A1B An inter-row weeding machine comprises rotary weeding units 19, 20 spaced apart along a main beam 1, each rotary unit 19, 20 being screened by a pair of side plates 22 whose spacing and height and angle can be altered, and by a pivoted rear plate 24. The weeding units 19, 20 are adjustably clamped on the beam 1, and the tools 20 are adjustably screwed to supports 19 of the units so that the width of soil weeded by each unit can be varied. The tool supports 19 are carried by shafts 18 driven from a shaft 9 and from each other by pulleys or sprockets 16 engaged by drive belts or chains 36 tensioned by pulleys or sprockets 31. The shaft 9 drives the central shaft 18 via belts or chains 35 and is driven by bevel gear box 8 to which drive is transmitted by means of shafts 6 and 7 from a tractor (not shown). The belts or chains 35 are tensioned by moving the gear box 8. Alternatively, the weeding units 19, 20 may be rotated by means of a central hydraulic motor (not shown) via gearwheels, or belts and pulleys. Wheels (not shown) may be mounted on the ends of the main beam 1. In another embodiment, a steering unit is interposed between the weeding machine shown and the tractor, and includes a steering wheel or handle. A seat for an operator is mounted on the steering unit.
