Abstract

1,076,241. Four-wheel-drive conversion for tractors. SELENE S.A.S. Nov. 18, 1963, No. 45418/63. Addition to 770,922. Heading B7H. In a modification of the parent invention whereby a tractor is converted to four-wheeldrive by interposing between the tractor gear box and rear axle a frame carrying transmission means connected to a differential on the front axle, the differential is mounted in the frame and drives the front wheels through separate shafts. The frame 7 is secured between flanges 6 which normally connect the front and rear portions 1, 3 of the tractor, and includes a differential assembly (Fig. 2, not shown) having a toothed planet carrier engageable by a displaceable pinion on the gear-box output shaft 2. The differential sun wheels are connected by spur gearing to universally-jointed telescopic shafts 15a, 15b which drive the front wheels through bevel gearing 16a, 16b. One shaft 15a is driven by a torque-limiting clutch 18 providing for differential rotation of the front and rear wheels.
