Abstract

1495087 Toothed gearing O & K ORENSTEIN & KOPPEL AG 30 Oct 1975 [31 Oct 1974] 44940/75 Heading F2Q [Also in Division B7] A speed-reducing driving means for an axle 3 of a rail vehicle bogie comprises a hollow driving shaft 15 for mounting concentrically around axle 3 and having flexible coupling means 21 for enabling it to be drivingly coupled to the axle 3; and a gear casing 8 (comprising parts 8a, 8b and 8c) which is rotatably carried on the shaft 15 and carries in bearing means an input driving shaft 12a perpendicular to the hollow shaft 15; rotation of shaft 12a being transmitted to shaft 15 by bevel gearing 12, 13 followed by an epicyclic, speed-reducing gear arrangement 16, 17, 18. A driving bevel gear wheel 12 which is carried within the gear casing by the input shaft 12a meshes with a driven bevel gear wheel 13 rotatably mounted on the hollow shaft 15. The epicyclic gear arrangement comprises a sun gear 16 on one end of a hollow coupling shaft 16a which spans the driving wheel 12 to be secured at its free end to the driven wheel 13; a planet gear-wheel carrier 19 secured on the hollow shaft 15 and carrying planet gear-wheels 17; and an internally-toothed, torque-reaction outer gear-wheel 18 secured in the gear casing. A second axle 4 of the bogie is driven by another such driving means from a common driving motor 7 mounted between the axles and having its output shafts 11 coupled to the respective input shafts 12a by flexible couplings 10.
