Abstract

502,084. Hydraulic transmission of power. STEYR-DAIMLER-PUCH AKT.- GES. Aug. 9, 1937, No. 21936. Convention date, May 15. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXXI and XXIV] A vehicle is driven by an engine through hydraulic gearing T and an additional gear W which includes a clutch and may be a reversing- gear, the clutch and additional gear being controlled by two hand or foot levers, one of which acts on the clutch only, while the other brings the additional gear into use and also disconnects the clutch. In the construction shown the additional gear is an epicyclic reversing gear cdmprising a driving bevel pinion i<1>, a driven bevel pinion i<2>, and planet pinions h<1> mounted on a carrier a normally connected by a clutch b, c to the shaft of the driven pinion i<2>, so that the reversing gear is normally locked and the pinions i<1>, i<2> rotate in the same direction. The clutch is disconnected in normal driving by means of a pedal d. When the drive is to be reversed a hand lever e is actuated and applies a brake g to the planet carrier a, at the same time disconnecting the clutch through a cam f, acting on the clutch pedal. The hydraulic gear T drives the reversing gear through gear wheels E, and the road wheels are driven from the reversing gear through cardan shafts. Changespeed gearing may be provided in addition to the reversing gear.
