300.644. Krupp Akt.-Ges., F. Nov. 18, 1927, [Convention date]. Variable-speed gearing suitable for vehicles has a single friction clutch such as D, E, G in each train operable while running. Of parallel driving, intermediate, and driven shafts B, F, H of the change gear proper, the shaft F is constantly driven by a pair of keyed wheels b<8>, f<1>. The, shaft H is driven from shaft F at two speeds by engaging clutch G to bring in pair g<2>, h', or clutch E to bring in pair e<3>, h<2>. According to the invention, a third speed is brought in through train d<2>, e<2>, e<3>, h<2> by engaging clutch D. This is possible by sleeve e<1> being loose on the steadily turning shaft F. A modification is described in which a fourth speed is obtained through a train similar to d<2> - - h<2> and another clutch on the other end of shaft B. A modification of a three-speed gear like that shown is described in which the last shaft J is driven from shaft H through a two-speed clutch gear so as to yield six speeds in all. In all the forms described, the first parallel shaft B is driven from an engine shaft. A, Fig. 1, through a bevel reversing-gear operated by a sliding dog clutch sleeve b<4>, Fig. 2.
