[Class 80 (ii).] Change-speed gearing of the lay-shaft type with single-helical gearing throughout comprises a plurality of gears 6, 7 slidable bn the driven shaft 4 on splines 16 of the same axial pitch as the gears. A clutch face 6a on the gear 6 preferably has helical teeth of the same axial pitch to engage like teeth on the face 3a of a constant-mesh pinion 3 on the driving-shaft 1, to effect direct driving.
