Abstract

Variable-speed toothed gearing comprises a driven shaft 21 and a tail shaft 21a connected by a clutch member 61 which is disengaged to facilitate changing speed, a single control member sufficing for the clutch 61 and the changing of the gears. In the arrangement shown, a gear 28 on a driving-shaft 20 in line with the shaft 21 drives constantly a countershaft 22 with fixed gears 36, 54, 53. First and second speeds are effected by moving a clutch gear 30; third and fourth by moving a double gear 44, 45. These slidable members are operated through levers 32, 47 from a controlling cam shaft 37, which also operates a spring lever 63 engaging the clutch member 61. A fourth lever 58 operates a pair of idlers which connect the gear 45 to a gear 55 to effect reversed driving.
