[Class 80 (ii)] In a variable-speed transmission, a set of inclined planet rollers 32 having bearings 33 guided radially in end plates 34 of a cage 20 integral with a driving shaft 21, are centrifugally urged against two encircling torque sustaining rings 40, 42. Each roller 32 carries a pinion 45 which meshes with a ring gear 46 carried by a drum 19 secured to a driven' shaft 14. A fulcrum ring 36 loosely mounted on a shaft 26 in the cage 20 provides additional means for forcing the rollers 32 against the rings 40, 42, the cage being constantly urged towards the right by the springs 31. The speed ratio may be varied by movement of the ring 42 along the roller sections 41, the actuating means comprising a pin 421 secured to the ring 42 engaging in a slot 48 in a fixed member 49 and also in a diagonal slot 57 in a movable block 50. Thus, rotation of a screwed shaft 51 produces transverse movement of the block 50, and hence longitudinal movement of the ring 42. The slot 57 may be curved in order that the relation between regulator movements and resulting speed changes may be maintained uniform throughout the speed range. An indicating device comprising a circular dial 62 and pointer 67 is operated by a pinion 64 on a spindle 63 which meshes with a rack 66 in the block 50.
