882,720. Expanding-wheel gear. ATELIERS DE LA MOTOBECANE. Feb. 14, 1958 [Feb. 14, 1957], No. 4926/58. Class 80 (2). In an autocycle automatic variable speed gear and clutch unit, wherein a centrifugal clutch comprising a drum 26 fast on a crankshaft 2 and a plate 29 carrying a centrifugal mechanism 32 is combined with an expanding V-belt pulley comprising flanges 1, 3 rotatable on the crank-shaft, the flange 1 being fixed to the plate 29 and the flange 3 being axially movable towards the flange 1 by centrifugal balls 12, blade springs 6 connect the plate 29 and the flange 3, urge the two flanges apart and, to facilitate radial belt movement, permit slight irregular axial and rotary movements of the flange 3 relative to the flange 1. The ends of the springs 6 may be connected to the plate 29 and the flange 3 by welding, simple insertion or, as shown, rivets 30 and screws 31 respectively. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 798,357.
