Abstract
564,395. Epicyclic gearing. BENNION, R. March 22, 1943, No. 4589. [Classes 80 (i) and 80 (ii)] An epicyclic gearing comprises a shaft 4 having a crank arm 2 in which is supported a wabbler shaft 1 having a gear member 5 connected universally at 8 to a shaft 7. The gear 5 makes contact at two places with a gear member 6 which places are on opposite sides of the joint 8. The connection between the gears 5, 6 may be toothed or frictional and either member 6 or 7 may be held stationary so that the other may be either the driving or driven member: The shaft 1 may be radially slidable in the crank 2 so that centrifugal force on the shaft creates pressure between the gear members 5, 6. The members 5, 6 may be conical. Thus by moving the shaft 7 axially so as to vary the two points of contact between the members 5, 6, a variable speed gearing is obtained.
