Abstract
1,018,145. Variable-ratio reduction gearing. ATELIERS METALLURGIQUES DE SAINTURBAIN. July 19, 1963 [Aug. 23, 1962], No. 28775/63. Heading F2D. A variable-ratio reduction gear comprises an adjustable-throw eccentric 2 carried by a driving shaft 1 and having freely rotatably mounted thereon a sleeve 5 on which conical friction discs 3 are axially slidably splined. The friction discs 3 are gripped at one point between an abutment ring 40, rings 4 1 , 42 which are slidably splined to stationary casing 8, and a presser ring 4 3 which is loaded by a spring 35. The sleeve 5 is universally coupled by an Oldham-type joint to an output shaft 7. The adjustable eccentric comprises an inner eccentric portion 13 integral with the input shaft 1 and an outer eccentric portion 2 which can be adjusted on the portion 13 to adjust throw. In operation the rings 4 0 -4 3 prevent movement of the discs 3 at one point so that the discs are caused to rotate, thus driving the sleeve 5 and the output shaft 7 at a speed depending upon the throw of the eccentric. A balance weight 17 may be attached to the shaft 1 to balance the compound eccentric.
