In a continuously-variable planetary friction gear radially adjustable planet cones 30 engage sun and annulus rings 19, 19<SP>1</SP> and 31, 31<SP>1</SP>, the planets being coupled to the driven shaft 37 while the driving shaft 11 is coupled to the sun ring 19 by radial pins 16 carried by bearings in a housing 15 secured by a nut 25, the pins 16 bearing against a control cam surface 18 formed on an axial flange of the ring 19. Speed variation is effected by adjustment of the axial spacing of the annulus rings 31, 31<SP>1</SP> by a control member 32, the planet spindles 34 moving along radial slots 36 in the coupling member 38 keyed to shaft 37.
