Abstract

1283732 Variable-speed gearing SPYPO DYNAMICS CORP 1 Aug 1969 [2 Aug 1968 (2) 18 July 1969] 44460/71 Divided out of 1283731 Heading F2D A variable-speed gear comprises a sungear 28 secured to an input shaft 15, a tubular auxiliary shaft 19 mounted for rotation on the input shaft 19 at one side of the sun gear 28, means for driving the shaft 19 at a predetermined adjustable speed, planet gears 30 carried by the shaft 19 and meshing the sun gear 28 and a ring gear 18 carried by an output shaft 17 rotatably mounted on the input shaft 15. The shaft 19 is driven by a motor 34, whose speed may be adjusted by a rheostat 35, through gearing comprising a ball gear 20 and face gear 32 as described in Specification 1,283731. In a modification, shown in Fig. 13, speed change is effected by friction gearing comprising a friction wheel- 345 slidably keyed to a driving shaft 15<SP>1</SP> an engaging a surface plate 48 carried by a shaft 49 which is connected by gearing 52, 54 to a spiral grooved face gear 32<SP>1</SP>. Speed variation is effected by rotation of a screw 53 by means of a knob 54 in order to effect axial movement of the friction wheel 45.
