Abstract
772,770. Eccentrics. NEUKIRCH, J. March 18, 1955 [March 20, 1954; March 20, 1954], No. 7901/55. Class 122 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] In a variable ratio gear in which the rotation of a driving shaft 32 carrying an eccentric 34 causes racks in contact therewith to oscillate linearly so that their positive half-motions can be fed through gear trains and freewheels to a final driven shaft (see Group XXIV), the eccentricity of the eccentric relative to the driving shaft 32 is adjusted to vary the velocity ratio of the gear. The eccentric 34 co-operates with racks 37 through a bearing 35 and is mounted rotatably on a second eccentric 44 fast on the driving shaft 32. An internally. toothed annulus 45 is fast with the main eccentric 34 and meshes a pinion 46, rotatable on a spindle fast in the second eccentric 44 and also meshing teeth 47 at the end of a sleeve 48 rotatable relatively to the shaft 32. On turning a control wheel 55, bevel gears 54, 54<SP>1</SP> turn a screwed spindle 52 carrying a control fork 53 which, together with a pin 50, is thus moved axially of the gear. The pin 50 slides in an axially directed groove in the shaft 32 and in an inclined slot 49 in the sleeve 48, which is thereby turned relatively to the shaft. Through the teeth 47, pinion 46, &c., the eccentric 34 is simultaneously turned on the eccentric 44, so that its eccentricity with respect to the shaft 32 is altered.
