Abstract

918,085. Variable-speed epicyclic gear. KIRSCHEY, G. Aug. 17, 1959, No. 28101/59. Class 80 (2). In a variable-speed friction gear, wherein driven double-coned planets 18 engage driving inner rings 16, 16<SP>1</SP> and reaction outer rings 19, 19<SP>1</SP> each of the planets is mounted, by antifriction elements 20, in a rocker 30 which is pivoted at 29 on a freely movable ring 28 and drivingly contacts a post 21 fast on a driven disc 22 so as to impart, in addition to the tangential driving force, a radial component force which acts to increase or reduce the engaging force between the planet and the outer rings in dependence on the radial position of the planets. The inner rings, 16, 16<SP>1</SP> are connected to a driving-shaft 11 via a cam and ball device 15 exerting a force, dependent on transmitted torque, urging the axially movable ring 16 towards the axially fixed ring 16<SP>1</SP> to grip the planets 18. The outer ring 19<SP>1</SP> is connected by a cam and ball device 27 to the fixed casing so that when it is rotated, together with the axially fixed ring 19, by screw means 25, it is axially moved for ratio variation.
