Variable-speed gearing.-A variable-speed of drive, dependent on the speed of the driving fly-wheel 3 and the load on the driven crank-shaft 8, is obtained by the use of rods 6, which are pivoted on the cranks 7, carry weights 9, and slide in blocks 4, 5 pivoted in the wheel 3. Inertia and centrifugal force prevent the free sliding of the rods 6 through the blocks 4, 5, so that power is transmitted.
