Abstract

225,518. Salomon, F. M. M. B. Nov. 30, 1923, [Convention date]. Variable-speed gearing comprises a gimbal-mounted gyroscope actuated by a driving-shaft whereby alternating impulses are generated and are caused by ratchet grips to drive a shaft in one direction, the speed ratio varying automatically with the load. A gyroscopic fly-wheel 19, Fig. 1, rotated bv suitable, electric and other means turns in a frame 14, which is supported in crossed gimbal-rings 26, 1. The frame 14 is driven through a flexible, coupling 15 from a source of power so that the fly-wheel is caused to turn end-over-end. The gimbal rings then oscillate. In Fig. 3 are. shown rods 24, 25, 29, 30 connecting the oscillating rings 26, 1 to ratchets 31 mounted on the driven shaft 32.
