351,897. Variable-speed ratchet gearing. HENDERSON, A., Cromdale, Banstead Road, Banstead, and ANDERSON, H. P. H., 62, Elgar Avenue, Tolworth, Surbiton, both in Surrey. Aug. 1, 1930, No. 228/31. Divided on 342,793. [Class 80 (ii).] A shaft c, Fig. 1, is driven from a shaft b at a speed which is varied upwardly from a 1 to 1 drive by two spring-pawl devices, one within the other. A boss bl fast on shaft b carries pawls b3, Fig. 3, held by springs in engagement with ratchet teeth inside an intermediate ring d. The ring d carries like spring pawls d<6> engaging ratchet teeth inside a drum c<1> fast on shaft c. To vary the speed, ring d is moved laterally in its own plane while still turning on its own centre by a control screw e. An increased speed produced by the pawls b<3> moving from a wider to a narrower space, is compounded by a similar action of pawls d<6>. Specifications 325,431, [Class 80 (i), Gearing, Belt &c.], and 342,793 are referred to.
