Abstract
352,845. Intermittent toothed gearing; calculating apparatus. FAIRWEATHER, H. G. C., 65, Chancery Lane, London.-(Edison, Inc., T. A. ; Edison Office Building, West-Orange, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Oct. 15, 1930, No. 30914. [Class 80 (i).] From a rotating crank handle 2, two shafts 17, 23 are driven alternately, one after the other. These shafts may drive respectively the counting drum and the tens transfer mechanism of calculating- machines such as are described in Specifications 240,889 and 243,648, [both in Class 106 (i), Calculating &c.]. The handle 2 is secured to a shaft 1 turning in a fixed bearing and rigidly secured to a toothed pinion 5 at the latter's pitch line. A wheel 7a is maintained in mesh with the pinion 5 and with an equal pinion 6a secured to shaft 17 by a pair of links 9a, 10a jointed at 8a to the centre of the wheel and pivoting on the central part 11 of pinion 5 and on the shaft 17, respectively. As pinion 5 wabbles round shaft 1, links 9a, 10a close and open so that shaft 17 is driven intermittently with a dwell. During this dwell, shaft 23 is being driven through a similarly-supported wheel 7b and a pinion 6b from the same wabble pinion 5.
