Abstract

246,644. Lawrence, W. L. Dec. 29, 1924. Variable-speed ratchet gearing comprises a crank 5, Fig. 3, upon a slide 4 which is moved radially by an elbow lever 7 which pivots upon a ball 8 inside the driving-shaft 1, and is operated by a sliding grooved sleeve 12. The crank 5 is connected by links 13, Fig. 2, to free-wheel housings 19 which are oscillated upon fixed countershafts 17. By pawls 20 the bosses 15 of loose toothed wheels 16 are driven in one direction in turn, so that a central wheel 21 is driven continuously at a speed depending on the position of the sleeve 12. The links 13 are of the double formation shown in Fig. 3.
