Abstract

250,662. Bursnall, J. S., and Blaylock, H. Jan. 15, 1925. Variable-speed ratchet gearing comprises a double eccentric variable ratchet train with a middle shaft or element 7 movable transversely and supported in a frame 8 upon slidable control rods 9, 10 which cross the axis of the gearing, driving and driven shafts 1, 20 being in line. Each train comprises a driving disc 2 with pivoted arms 3, each carrying a pawl 5 with several teeth adapted to engage and drive a ratchet wheel 6. The pawls, which drive in succession as each is moving fastest, are held up to their work by a spring band 14 encircling their pivots 4. A control lever 13 acts on the rod 10, and additional guides 23, 24 may be provided.
