441,080. Reversing-gearing. QUINN, F. P., 1997, West Georgia Street, HORROBIN, W., 1515, Barclay Street, and HAWKINS, W. F., 3476, West 3rd Avenue, all in Vancouver, Canada. July 12, 1934, No. 20503. [Class 80 (ii)] A reversing - gear comprises a pair of crank - discs 6 carrying crank-pins 7 on which are slidable cross-heads 11 connected by a pair of arms 10 slidable and rockable on a transverse shaft 8 in a casing 1 freely mounted on the driving shaft 4 and driven shaft 5. When the casing 1 is held.by applying the brake 24, the shaft 5 is driven reversely. When the crank-discs 6 are clutched to the casing 1 by contracting clutch bands 22 on the discs 6 and the brake 24 is released, a forward solid drive is obtained. The clutch bands 22 may be operated by rods 19 carrying cranks 20 adapted to engage a slidable cone 15. The cone 15 and brake 24 may be both connected to a single operating-lever 17, which contracts the bands 22, in one direction and operates the brake 24 in the other. Each of the bands 22 may be in two parts, one end of each part being anchored to one of the shafts 19, the other end being operated by a crank 23 on the other shaft 19.
