Abstract
417,426. Pneumatic power transmission. ARNOUIL, M. P., Avenue de la Gare, Libos, Lot-et-Garonne, France. Dec. 29, 1933, No. 36624. [Class 8 (ii).] Mounted upon a driving shaft 1 are cylinders 5, provided with ports 6, arranged to slide in sheaths 4 provided with ports 7. The driven shaft 8 is supported in a bearing 11 and has formed upon it a crank pin 9 connected by rods 12 to pistons 13 working within the cylinders 5. A pedal 20 and a centrifugal governor 25 are connected to a sleeve 16 which is also connected to bell cranks 32 actuating the cylinders. The pistons 13 are provided with suction valves operated by projections in the connecting rods. In the position shown the shaft 1 rotates idly and when the pedal 20 is slightly depressed the cylinders are moved inwards and the connections between parts 6 and 7 is shut off and the air in the cylinders is slightly compressed and a drive transmitted to the shaft 8. As the speed of the shaft 8 increases the governor 25 moves the cylinders inwards reducing the compression space until the rubber disc 36 engages the end of the cylinder and a straight through drive results.
