Actuating pumps by fluid-pressure motors.-In an arrangement of direct coupled reciprocating engine and compressor, the flywheel shaft E is placed below the common axis of the cylinders. Two coupling rods P are arranged one above the shaft on one side of the crank K and the other beyond the crank on a level with the shaft, the rods being secured at one end by lugs Q to the engine piston B and at the other to a cross bar T to the centre of which is attached the compressor rod L.
