Abstract

221,669. Morgan, F. J. Oct. 20, 1923. Driving gear.-The rods 3 of pistons 3<1> working in a pair of cylinders 1 are attached to a common cross-head 4 connected by links 6 to a pair of lateral bell-cranks 8 supported by standards 9<a>. The short arms of the bell-cranks are connected by connecting-rods 10 to opposed cranks on the crank shaft 12. Several pairs of cylinders may be arranged to act similarly on a common crankshaft. In a horizontal engine the bell-cranks are arranged in a vertical plane. Air cylinders may be employed to turn the engine over dead centres.
