Abstract
556,209 Power plant. PERICLES, Y. July 3, 1941, No. 8401. Convention date, Aug. 3, 1940. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] An internal-combustion engine plant comprises a two-stroke engine 18 and a compressor 24 for scavenging and supercharging air, driven by an exhaust-gas turbine 23, the shaft 22 of which is connected to the engine shaft by a flexible coupling. The volume of air drawn in by the compressor per revolution of the engine is at least twice the swept volume of the engine cylinders but not so great that in its compressed state it exceeds twice the swept volume of the cylinders. The flexible coupling, Fig. 5, comprises springs 35 ... 38 between lugs 29, 30 on a driving member 28 and lugs 31 ... 34 on a chain wheel 19 connected by a chain 21 to a wheel 20 on the shaft 22. In a modification, Fig. 6, the compressor 48 is a reciprocating compressor driven from the shaft of the engine 49.
