Self-driving machines.-A hydro-pneumatic self-driving engine comprises water cylinders a having a connecting pipe m and communicating with a compressed-air chamber n by a pipe n<1>. The cylinders a are provided with plungers h connected to cranks g on the shaft e by rods i, the plungers working through asbestos-packed stuffing-boxes k and being guided by pins h<1> in slots l in the uprights l<1>, while the air chamber n is supplied with compressed air by a pump o driven by an eccentric o<3>, o<4> from the shaft e. It is stated that the displacement of the water and expulsion of the compressed air on one of the plungers h entering its cylinder a creates an expelling force against the plunger which is forced out thereby, the acting being assisted by flywheels f.
