Abstract

<PICT:0667050/III/1> A homogenizer of the type wherein a positive displacement piston pump forces the material to be homogenized through a jet or crusher head is characterized in that the pump is driven by a fluid, e.g. air, steam or oil, under pressure. The pump may be of the mutiple plunger type and mechanically or hydraulically controlled means are provided for successively connecting the plunger cylinders to the fluid compressor. As shown, the material to be homogenized is forced through the crusher head 1 by pistons 3, 4. The pistons are actuated by integral hydraulic plungers 5, 6, working in cylinders 7, 8. A hydraulic pump 9 serves to pump oil to the cylinders 7, 8, and a selector valve 10 provides for delivery of oil alternately to the cylinders. The selector valve 10 is in turn operated by lower pressure oil circulated by a pump 22 and is controlled by selector valves 26, 27, which are actuated by wedges 29, 30 on the plungers 5, 6 respectively.
