Abstract

1,056,478. Reciprocating pumps. O. C. G. WENNBERG. Dec. 16, 1964 [Dec. 19, 1963], No. 51144/64. Heading F1A. A piston pump for concrete or material of similar consistency comprises two feed pistons provided each in a working cylinder and alternately forcing the material from a supply container to a common discharge duct the entry of which is alternately put into communication with the cylinders by means of a valve having a through passage, the entry of the common discharge duct being common to both cylinders and having an entry area at least twice the cross-sectional area of each cylinder. Two side-by-side cylinders 44, 46, Figs. 1 and 4, are connected to a hopper 16 containing concrete. Each cylinder has a tubular piston 48 sliding on a stationary member 50. Pressure liquid is supplied or withdrawn through ducts 62, 64 alternately to opposite sides of each member 50 whereby the two pistons 48 are reciprocated in opposite directions. A discharge valve 24, pivoted on a shaft 26, can be swung by means of a pair of hydraulic jacks (not shown) acting on a double crank 32 so that its through passage 42 aligns with the piston which is performing a discharge stroke, whereby the concrete which was drawn from the hopper 16 during the previous suction stroke is discharged through the valve into a discharge duct 72. At its entry 74, Fig. 5, the discharge duct 72 is enlarged so as to embrace both positions of the valve passage 42, the area of the entry 74 being at least twice the cross-sectional area of each cylinder 44, 46. The valve has a cover plate 76 which covers the portion of the entry 74 not being used. An annular knife 70 carried by the valve co-operates with a stationary ring 68 to cut through the concrete when the valve position is being changed. The pump is mounted on a frame 10 supported by wheels 12.
