Abstract

1427293 Reciprocating pumps CAT PUMPS INTERNATIONAL 28 March 1974 [2 April 1973] 13719/74 Heading F1A In a pump comprising a bucket piston 8 reciprocated in a cylinder 3 by a piston rod 7, a replaceable sleeve 19 surrounds the rod and slidingly and sealingly engages a seal 20 to prevent wearing of the rod by the seal. Seals 17, 18 are provided between the sleeve and the rod. A step 21 formed between different diameter portions of the rod reduces migration of liquid along the rod. A second seal 22 engages the larger diameter portion of the rod. Piston 8 is movable between an imperforate plate 11 and a perforated plate 12 to permit flow through piston passage 9 during the return stroke, and prevent such flow during the forward stroke, delivery taking place via check-valve 16. In Fig. 2 (not shown), step 21 is omitted and sleeve 19 extends along the whole length of the piston rod. In Fig. 3 (not shown), two short sleeve portions (19À3a-b) mounted on the piston rod slidably engage respective seals (20, 22À3). In Fig. 5 (not shown), sleeves (19, 19À5) are provided on the larger and smaller diameter portions of a stepped piston rod.
