Abstract
446,979. Controlling change-speed gearing. KIEP, J. N., 22, Reichskanzlerstrassc, Altona-Hochkamp, Germany. Nov. 8, 1934, No. 32180. [Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXIX] Change-speed gearing 8 is connected to an hydraulic coupling 3, 4, and the slip in the coupling is adapted to effect speed changes in the gearing suitable to the load on a tail shaft 9, which may be the propeller shaft of a vehicle. The gearing 8 may be mechanical or hydraulic. In one form, dynamos 13, 14 driven respectively from the driving and driven shafts 2, 5 of the coupling arc connected to a suitable differential electric control device 17 which effects the speed changes through suitable means either directly or through a relay. Thus the differential device 17 may operate a control valve 19 connected to a suitable source 20 of oil or air under pressure so that pressure fluid is admitted to one side or other of the piston of a servomotor 23 which effects the speed changes.
