The case o of marine reverse-gear, wherein an output shaft i is driven from a parallel input flywheel c through a double friction clutch a<SP>1</SP>, a<SP>2</SP>, which selects respectively forward and reverse gear trains f, g, h or k, m, the former including an idler g, has provision for mounting the idler at either side of the case on a bushing n, whereby the trains f, g, h and k, m can be interchanged to suit different-handed propellers, and the high speed relative rotation in a pilot bearing d between the clutch shaft b and flywheel c can always be arranged to occur only during the less frequently used astern running.
