Abstract
656,155. Thrust bearings. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIV-UND MASCHINENFABRIK. April 15, 1948, No. 10532. Convention date, April 23, 1947. [Class 12 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] A member 24 rigid with the housing 23 of a marine reversing-gearing (see Group XXIV), acts both as the casing of a valve 36 controlling the admission of pressure oil to the gear clutches and as the fixed member of a bearing absorbing the axial thrust of the propeller, collars 25, 26, fast on and preferably integral with the gearing output shaft 14 coupled to the propeller shaft, taking up forward and reverse drive thrust respectively. The valve 36 can supply oil to one or other of ducts 28, 30 to effect engagement of the forward or reverse drive gear clutch respectively, and oil is also constantly supplied to a duct 29 to hold both clutches disengaged when the valve 36 communicates with neither of the ducts 28, 30, the clutches being of the kind described in Specification 207,318, [Class 80 (ii)], having both engaging and disengaging fluid spaces. A lubricating duct 35 leads from the duct 29 to the thrust surface of the collar 26, which is under load both during reverse drive and when the ship is moving ahead without drive, so that this surface is constantly lubricated, and a lubricating duct 34 leads from the duct 28 to the thrust surface of the collar 26 so that this is lubricated only during forward drive.
