Abstract

438,563. Reversing-gearing. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIV- & MASCHINENFABRIK, Winterthur, Switzerland. March 28, 1935, No. 9668. Convention date, March 31, 1934. Addition to 382,865. [Class 80 (ii)] The parent Specification describes a reversing- gearing in which a compact construction and a short length of gear comprising pressure-oiloperated control coupling devices in the form of a friction clutch and a like brake arranged between the driving and driven shafts is provided by accommodating the two couplings directly side by side in a mounting member for the epicyclic gear. According to the invention, this gearing is modified in that the clutch and brake are arranged on opposite sides of the mounting member, the clutch for forward driving permitting of the driving and driven shafts being connected directly. A hollow driven shaft a, Fig. 1, carries a casing f for accommodating the clutch g for directly coupling shaft a to driven shaft d. The casing has an interiorly toothed rim b for actuating the epicyclic drive c, c<1>, e. The clutch discs g are keyed to but slidable on driven shaft d which is mounted on the left in shaft a and on the right in gear-box k at i and has revolubly mounted thereon a carrier f for the planet wheels of which the smaller c<1> meshes with a sun e keyed to shaft d. A hub f<3> of the carrier f has slidably keyed thereto inner members h of the brake, the outer casing f<2> of which is fixed to gear-box k. Axial thrust is taken by surfaces v, t. The clutch and brake are actuated by pressure oil supplied to the spaces r, s through passages p, q from grooves pi, q<1> in communication with a control cock as in the Specification referred to. The casing f<1> is mounted in the gear-box at i<1> and also on the periphery i<2> of the carrier f. In a modification, Fig. 3, the inner brake members hare slidably keyed to a sleeve i<4> fixed to the gear-box. This permits of carrying the bearing i<3> for the casing f<1> to the output end of the gearing, the extended casing thus enclosing the inner parts of the gear. Alternatively, the extended casing may at this end surround an extension of the hub f<4> of the carrier f.
