Abstract
1,216,558. Arrangement of transmission gearing. GOTAVERKEN A.B. 18 June, 1968 [29 June, 1967], No. 28986/68. Heading B7V. [Also in Divisions F1 and F2] In a ship, two I.C. engines located in the extreme stern of the hull, appreciably above the level of the propeller shaft 8, are connected to the latter by reduction gearing having separate gear trains from respective input shafts 3, 4 to a common gear-wheel on the propeller shaft 8, each train including at least one intermediate gear-wheel and having the main reduction in the final stage. A disengageable clutch is included in each gear train, and an auxiliary drive to a generator, pump, or other machine may be taken from an intermediate shaft in a train. The triangular gear-box 5 is supported ahead of the engines by beams in the bottom structure of the hull and by beams 10 adapted to carry platforms in the engine room.
