439,664. Hydraulic transmission of power. AKTIEBOLAGET LJUNGSTROMS ANGTURBIN, 32, Kungsgatan, Stockholm. March 1, 1935, No. 6551. Convention date, June 30, 1934. [Class 69 (ii)] A hydraulic power transmission comprises a hydraulic coupling and a hydraulic torque converter always filled with liquid, the arrangement being such that the torque converter is at rest when the coupling is in operation. In the form shown, the engagement of a clutch 16 causes drive to be transmitted from the shaft 5, through the hydraulic coupling and its driven shaft 10 to the driven shaft 15 ; a clutch 23 is out of engagement at this time, so that the pump shaft 20 of the converter is not driven. By engaging the clutch 23 and disengaging the clutch 16, drive is transmitted through the torque converter ; the shafts 5, 10 are connected, the shaft 20 is driven, and the turbine shaft 25 of the torque converter acts through an overrunning clutch 38 on the member 29 carried by the driven shaft. In other forms, a single clutch plate is movable to the right or left to cause drive to be transmitted either through the converter or coupling, and the final drive may be transmitted through mechanical gearing.
