273,974. Rieseler, H. Jan. 14, 1927. Variable-speed gearing comprises a series arrangement of hydraulic variable-speed gearing with mechanical epicyclic gearing. The driven element 4, 5, 8 of an hydraulic gear is directly connected to the driving-element 9 of the mechanical gear, preferably a variable-speed gear. A driving-shaft 1 carries the driving vane or member 3 of the hydraulic gear. The use of an hydraulic abutment 12 has the effect of magnifying the torque transmitted to a driven shaft 13. The hydraulic gear may be made to turn solid by engaging a clutch 7.
