Abstract
500,401. Hydraulic transmission of power. TUGWOOD, R. J. (Daimler-Benz Akt.-Ges.) Feb. 23, 1938, No. 5751. [Class 69 (ii)] A power transmission system comprises a hydraulic coupling of the F÷ttinger type of the kind which can be emptied during running to effect uncoupling and an auxiliary mechanical clutch in series therewith. A shaft A, Fig. 1, driven through step-up gearing from an engine shaft drives through a claw clutch K', K<2> the pump clement f<1> of a two-circuit hydraulic coupling, the runner member f<2> of which drives the blower G of the engine. The clutch is provided with synchronizing means comprising a friction element 8<2> on the movable clutch past and a spring-pressed friction element a' on the other part. To empty the coupling, the supply thereto is interrupted by a cock a., In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the auxiliary clutch is on the output side of the coupling. In a further modification, Fig. 3, an epicyclic gear controlled by a brake B is employed on the input or output side of the coupling ; release of the brake B interrupts the drive, whereas on tightening the brake a step-up drive is established.
