Clutches and speed-varying mechanism.-In hydraulic power transmission mechanism for driving vehicles and machines, of the kind having a pump P, Fig. 1, and motor S, an auxiliary motor S<1> is provided which is supplied with liquid at starting or when heavy loads occur. The auxiliary motor may be of variable capacity, may be by-passed by valves U when it is not required, may be connected to its shaft by a clutch, and may drive through spur gearing. In another form, an auxiliary pump P<1>, Fig. 3, is also provided. In both forms, control is effected either by hand or automatically by the liquid pressure acting on a spring or weight-loaded piston.
