Abstract

226,124. Thoma, H. Feb. 19, 1924. Stroke, varying.-In a hydraulic variable-speed gear of the pump and motor type for driving a lathe, motor car, locomotive, hoisting apparatus &c., the controlling means regulate the speed of the driven member by adjustment of the pump up to its largest output, and thereafter by reducing the capacity of the motor and an indicator for the speed ratio is provided. The controlling means comprise a rotatable drum 86, Fig. 2, in which is a groove 87 with curved end portions, the groove being engaged by rollers 88, 89 carried by rods 90 connected to the stroke-varying devices of the pump and motor. An indicating pointer 91, Fig. 1, on the drum shaft moves over a scale 92, and an oil container 37 is provided on either the suction or pressure side of the pump.
