Abstract
433,263. Hydraulic transmission of power. PORSCHE GES., DR. ING. H. c. F., 24, Kronenstrasse, Stuttgart, Germany. Feb. 12, 1935, Nos. 4524 and 4525. Convention dates, Feb. 12, 1934 and May 11, 1934. [Class 69 (ii)] In hydraulic power transmission gearing having a pump wheel, turbine wheel, and an auxiliary bladed wheel, the auxiliary wheel may be coupled to the driven shaft through reversing gearing to obtain increased torque. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the pump P is carried by the flywheel 2, the turbine T by the shaft 5, and the auxiliary wheel L by a sleeve 10. A one-way device F<1> allows the sleeve 10 to be locked to the turbine shaft 5 when it is rotating forwards at the speed of the turbine shaft, and a one-way device F<2> locks the sleeve to a member 14 when it is rotating backwards. The member 14 is capable of being held by a brake B, and of being connected to a pinion R<1> by a sleeve M<1>; the pinion R meshes with pinions R<2> meshing with a pinion R<3>, and the latter is connectable to the final driven shaft 21 through a one-way device F<13> and a slidable sleeve M<8>. A slidable sleeve M<2> allows the pinion R<1> to be connected to the shaft 5, or the shaft 5 to be connected to the shaft 21. When the sleeves are in the position shown and the brake B is applied, the shaft 21 is driven forwards, with or without torque conversion. When the brake is taken off, the wheel L assists in driving the shaft 21 through the gearing and increased torque is obtained. In order to obtain a reverse drive, the brake B is applied, and the pinions R<1>, R' are coupled to the shafts 5, 21 respectively. The sleeves are operated by a lever 30, springs 31 being interposed in the connections 29, no drive being transmitted when the lever is in its mid-position. In a modified form shown in Fig. 6, the operating lever 30 engages a groove in the sleeve M<3> mounted outside the sleeve M<2>, and the sleeve M<1> is pressed by a spring 43 against the sleeve M<2> Spring- pressed catch pieces are provided for engaging a recess in the lever 30 in its operative positions. The brake B may comprise blocks 49, Fig. 8, applied by a tension spring 51. When an accelerator pedal 59 is depressed, a stop 63 lifts a lever 64 connected to lever 58 to turn a rod 55 carrying a sleeve 54 having recesses engaged by lugs 53 on sleeves 52 ; the sleeves 52 are thus moved apart and the brake blocks taken off. They are re-applied by acting on an extension of the lever 64.
