Abstract

273,681. Murray Automatic Transmission Co., (Assignees of Murray, F. W.). July 2, 1926, [Convention date]. Reversing-gearing comprises a shaft 51 which drives a shaft 153 through bevel gears 154, 156 on the respective shafts, and bevel gears 158 on a spider 157, keyed to an axially movable ring 161. The ring has teeth 162 adapted to engage teeth on the gear 156 to secure forward drive; when the ring is moved together with brake shoes 165 to disengage the teeth, the shoes grip the ring to prevent it from turning and the reverse drive is obtained. The movements of the member 131 and ring 161 are obtained by turning a sleeve 149 provided with cam slots.
