Abstract

477,755. Positive clutches; variablespeed gearing. KREMER, M. DE. June 23, 1937, No. 17507. [Class 80 (ii)] In a synchromesh variable-speed gear, a double clutch sleeve 13, splined on the driven shaft 8 and provided with groups of external clutch teeth 14 engageable alternatively with internal teeth 7, 7a on gears 2, 10, has mounted thereon, between the groups of teeth, yokes 15 to which are secured female friction cones 6, 6a co-operating with male cones on the gears 2, 10, the yokes each having two pairs of inclined shoulders 16, 16a which coact with inclined faces 17, 17a on the ends of the adjacent pair of shortened teeth 14 so as to prevent engagement of the teeth 14 with either of the gears until the parts have been brought into synchronism by the action of the appropriate friction surfaces. Spring-loaded locating balls 22 provide a slipping connection between the member 13 and the yokes. An actuating ring 20 splined on the member 13 is secured to the latter by spring-loaded studs 21. The teeth 14 are pointed at their ends to facilitate engagement.
