Abstract

443,283. Variable - speed gearing. STOECKICHT, W., 3, Erikastrasse, Solln, Munich, Germany. Sept. 24, 1935, No. 26463. Convention date, Sept. 24, 1934. [Class 80 (ii)] In epicyclic gearing in which the speed of the driven shaft 5 is increased by braking a member (in the form shown, the sun pinion 2) and in which direct drive is obtained when a lockable free engine clutch 6 is in coupling position, a dog clutch 7, 8 is used to effect the locking of the free engine clutch. The pinion 2 is loose on the driving shaft 4 and is secured to a brake device 3 which is interconnected in any suitable way with the clutch 7, 8 so that when the one is engaged the other is free. When the pinion 2 is braked the internal gear 13 and shaft 5 are driven at the higher speed and the clutch 8 is kept out. When the lever 10 is moved to the right to release the brake, the clutch 6 acts to give a direct drive. The claws 14 are bevelled as shown to prevent engagement until synchronism is reached between the disc 12 (carrying the planets 1 and the clutch member 7) and the member 8 secured to the gear 13 and feathered on the shaft 5. In this device the clearance between the claws of the dog clutch may be greater than usual.
