Abstract

376,285. Systems for transmitting mechanical power. KRISTOFFERSEN, O., 34, Sorgenfrigate, Oslo, Norway. Feb. 2, 1931, No. 3259. Convention date, Feb. 3, 1930. [Class 38 (iv).] A transmission gear includes a planetary gear 22, 23, driven from the driving shaft 4 through a clutch member 6 and a housing 13, and distributing the torque between the load shaft 57, through a gear 61, and the shaft 27 of a dynamo element 51, through a gear 24, the transmission ratio of the latter gearing being more than twice that of the former. The load shaft carries the second element of the dynamo. The core members may be conical and axial movement of the shaft 27 to vary the air gap and the transmission characteristics may be obtained by a hand-lever or foot pedal (not shown). The gear is operated by a hand-lever 46 which actuates a clutch member 34 to a position free of the clutch member 6 which is then disengaged from the member 5 by springs 7. Movement of the lever 46 towards the position shown in the Figure first engages the clutch members 5, 6 for forward driving, and when the position shown is reached the gear is locked for solid drive. Movement of the lever 46 in the reverse direction engages clutch members 34, 36 for reverse driving, a brake band 50 being merely engaged with the housing 13 to hold the planet gear stationary. In a modification a free-wheel clutch is arranged between the shafts 27, 57. The clutch member 34 may be omitted when the transmission is to be always operative.
