Abstract

326,585. Barrell, G. N., and Collings, C. T. Feb. 11, 1929. Reversing-gearing provides for a forward drive through a clutch A, Fig. 1, connecting aligned driving and driven shafts 3, 27, and a reversed drive through two sets of cranks and connecting-rods and a clutch B on a countershaft. One linkage set 5, 7, 9, Fig. 2, drives part 8 of countershaft reversely, the connecting-rod 7 carrying a cross-pin 11 workingin a slot 13 in a frame 1 to ensure the reversal of direction. The other part 24 of the countershaft is connected to shaft 27 by two direct-driving crank-linkages 25, 26 in quadrature. Clutches A, B are engaged alternatively by a lever 18 which advances either cone 14 or cone 15, which tilts a lever 30 or 31 to tighten a clutch band.
